REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT FOR A COMPUTER AIDED <br />DISPATCH SYSTEM <br />�!l <br />rJX. <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1s` Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with TriTech Software <br />Systems for the purchase of computer aided dispatch system and <br />maintenance services in an amount not to exceed $470,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted a $15 million Urban Area <br />Security Initiative grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This initiative was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of <br />urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have adequate <br />equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from acts of <br />terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local agencies for <br />equipment purchases approved and authorized by the federal Office of <br />Domestic Preparedness. <br />As part of the 2004 UASI, the Fire Department implemented a Mobile Data <br />Computer Project (MDC). The MDC project allows for various types of <br />electronic information to be sent directly to units responding to <br />emergencies. The transmission of this information is reliant on the Fire <br />Department's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and the current CAD <br />needs upgrading to facilitate the transfer of data. TriTech, the current <br />provider of this service to the Fire Department, is offering a solution <br />which includes upgrading current hardware, software, software interfaces <br />and service maintenance. The Fire Department is recommending entering <br />into an agreement with TriTech to meet our CAD and MDC needs. <br />25M-1 <br />
