COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Bist <br />• Noted that there was a ceremony on Friday, March 29, 2002 to turn on <br />Sasscer Fountain located at the corner of Santa Ana Boulevard and <br />Ross. She noted that the fountain was named after Nelson Sasscer, a <br />Santa Ana Police Officer killed in the line of duty <br />• Announced that the Floral Home Park Tour was to be held April 27-28, <br />2002 <br />Councilmember Solorio <br />• Noted that the Council approved Underground Utility District 36 which <br />will be a large enhancement to Main Street <br />• Announced that the grand opening of Delhi Center on March 23, 2002 <br />was a tremendous success <br />• Also announced that the Delhi Center will be holding its Gala Dinner <br />fundraiser on May 4, 2002 <br />• Announced that La Opinion Newspaper is celebrating its 75th <br />anniversary, and that there will be a photo exhibit at Martinez <br />Bookstore and Galleries <br />• Congratulated Councilmember Alvarez for her efforts in bringing the <br />Festival del Mariachi to Santa Ana <br />• Noted that April 1, 2002 is a State holiday commemorating Cesar <br />Chavez and his legacy. He also noted that a new sign honoring Cesar <br />Chavez has been unveiled at Cesar Chavez Campesino Park <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />• Noted that Orange County Home magazine featured Floral Park in its <br />April, 2002 edition, and highlighted many of the great features of our <br />City. The article also featured pictures of the wild parrots that inhabit <br />Floral Park. He noted that the most common parrot species observed <br />in Floral Park are red -crowned and lilac -crowned Amazons; he <br />encouraged residents to obtain more information on the wild parrots by <br />visiting www.parrotproiect.org <br />• Thanked Mayor Pro Tern McGuigan for requesting that the Council <br />adjourn its meeting of March 18, 2002 in memory of his mother who <br />passed on to be with the Lord on March 6, 2002. He thanked all of the <br />neighbors and friends and city staff for the cards and flowers and <br />meals over the past few weeks. He noted that his mother was a nurse <br />for the County of Orange and was a big believer in the public school <br />system. There were many reasons in the 1960's and 1970's for his <br />parents to take all five of their kids out of Santa Ana and move <br />somewhere else, but like many Santa Ana residents, they chose to <br />stay and work to improve the future of the City. Councilmember <br />Franklin stated that his mom never had a negative word to say about <br />the City of Santa Ana.
