COMMENTS <br />Mayor Pro Tem McGuigan <br />• Commended the Friends of the Zoo for a very successful annual <br />Zoofari held at the Zoo at Prentice Park on August 24t' and noted <br />that the funds raised will help support the Zoo <br />• Noted that on September 7, 2002 a time capsule at the Zoo will be <br />opened; this time capsule was placed at the zoo when the land was <br />first given to the City by the Prentice family <br />• Asked the City Council to adjourn its meeting in memory of former <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency Director, Cleve <br />Williams <br />Councilmember Bist <br />• Asked staff to follow up on what the City does when an accident <br />involving a crossing guard occurs within the City <br />• Announced that El Sol Science and Arts Academy in Santa Ana <br />received a grant totaling one million dollars to assist with school <br />construction; she further announced that the fundraiser held by El <br />Sol on August 31, 2002 was very successful <br />• Asked staff to obtain information about the proposed "blitz build" of <br />a house in Santa Ana by Habitat for Humanity <br />• Thanked the SEIU for addressing the Council and encouraged <br />union leaders to resume negotiations with the City <br />Councilmember Solorio <br />• Congratulated Mayor Pulido and staff on the success of President <br />George Bush's visit to Santa Ana and the Bower's Museum on <br />August 23, 2002 <br />• Reported that he attended a Bike trail clean-up sponsored by <br />Madison Park and Eastside Neighborhood Associations to <br />supplement what the City is able to do <br />• Reported that he attended an event at Main Place to encourage <br />residents to register to vote and to vote on November 5, 2002 <br />• Announced that on August 29, 2002 there was a ground breaking <br />for a storm drain at Segerstrom and Bristol streets <br />• Thanked and commended SEIU for their leadership on behalf of the <br />City's part-time workers <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />• Congratulated the Edna Park neighborhood on the ribbon cutting <br />event for new playground equipment improvements <br />• Asked staff to look at a program aimed at discouraging littering in <br />the City and suggested that the ETAC Committee also look at this <br />issue <br />• Asked Council Services staff to look at purported problems with <br />recent water bills and large increases that some residents have <br />experienced on their water bills <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 329 SEPTEMBER 3, 2002 <br />
