In the Monterey Revival, stucco exteriors, instead of adobe, are often combined with wood or brick. Windows are often multi-light, either double- hung sash or casements in type. Roofs are usually side-gables, with afront-gabled extension of one or two stories at one end. The vast majority of Monterey Revival buildings are two stories in height, and nearly all feature a cantilevered balcony, shaded by the overhang of the principal roof and enclosed with a wood or wrought iron railing, across most or all of the upper story facade. Primarily a residential style, the Monterey Revival emerged in the late 1920s and reached the height of its popularity in 1930. SUMMARY/CONCLUSION: The B. Warner House qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana Register of Historical Properties under Criterion 1 for its exemplification of the distinguishing characteristics of the Monterey Revival style.
