RFBA-Naming of Kiwanis Basketball Court <br />May 28, 2008 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />In general, the paragraph relating to the naming of parks and facilities indicates the name should <br />consider: <br />i) A name which serves to identify the location of the subject area. <br />2) A name which references the history of the site or area. <br />3) A name which identifies a person or family which made extraordinary donation of <br />land or funds to promote the improvement of the public facility. <br />4) A name which recognizes a person or family who made a significant contribution to <br />the well being of the city, including city council, commissioners, officers and <br />employees of the city, but not anyone who currently holds such position. <br />Al~1ALYSIS OF THE ISSUE <br />Based on the guidelines established in the municipal code and in consideration of what would <br />best identify the naming of facilities, the following analysis was determined on the suggested <br />name. <br />• Existing Name: <br />o Currently no name has been approved For the new basketball court at Kiwanis <br />Barrier Free Park. <br />Proposed Name: <br />o "Raul Ayala Sports Court" recognizes a community resident that was the <br />inspiration for the Kiwanis Club to make a significant contribution and volunteer <br />effort to raise funding towards the improvement of Kiwanis Barrier Free Park. <br />o Raul Ayala attended numerous events and functions to encourage individuals to <br />donate to the Kiwanis Ban•ier Free Park to complete the vision in providing a <br />basketbaq court for disable children. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. <br />Gerardo Mouet, Executive Director <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency <br />39A-9 <br />
