REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JANUARY 5, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT WITH PACE <br />FOR DESIGN ENGINEERING SERVICES <br />FOR FOUNTAIN NO.1 REHABILITATION <br />(PROJECT 09-9108-C) <br />CITY MANAGER <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15' Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />authorize the City Manager and the Clerk of the Council to execute the <br />attached amendment to the agreement with Pacific Advanced Civil <br />Engineering Inc. (PACE), subject to non-substantive changes approved by <br />the City Manager and City Attorney, to provide design engineering <br />services for Fountain No. 1 in the amount not to exceed $31,500 for a <br />total contract amount of $122,550. <br />DISCUSSION <br />In May 2008, the City entered into an agreement with PACE to provide <br />engineering services for the renovation of the Fountain No. 3 in the <br />Plaza of the Fountains. Since then, Fountain No. 1 has been identified as <br />needing repair due to deterioration and maintenance problems (Exhibit 1). <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency has allocated <br />additional funds to address cracks and leakage in the fountain, provide <br />new spray center jet and lighting, and replace the electrical and <br />plumbing systems. This project will contribute to the ongoing efforts to <br />enhance the aesthetic needs of the Civic Center Plaza. <br />The construction for the renovation of both fountains is anticipated to <br />commence in June 2009. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />There is no environmental impact associated with this action. <br />231-1 <br />
