REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 1, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT WITH SANTA ANA UNIFIED <br />SCHOOL DISTRICT /CENTRAL COUNTY <br />ROP - 2009 SANTA ANA YOUTH <br />EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 15t Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute the <br />attached agreement with Santa Ana Unified School District /Central County <br />ROP in an amount not to exceed $30,000, subject to non - substantive <br />changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City of Santa Ana Local Workforce Investment Area (LWIA) has received <br />funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to operate <br />the Santa Ana Youth Employment (SAY) program from May 1, 2009 through <br />September 30, 2009. One of the components of the ARRA Summer Youth <br />program is to provide classroom training and work experience in up -and- <br />coming careers. <br />The Santa Ana Unified School District /Central County ROP (ROP) is an <br />existing long term provider of services to youth through the Workforce <br />Investment Act (WIA) Youth Program and can provide the specialized <br />classroom training requested for the SAY program. ROP will provide <br />training programs in "Web Design" and "Introduction to Green Careers ". <br />ROP will provide four weeks of classroom training for 60 SAY participants <br />as well as worksite development for the `Introduction to Green Careers" <br />participants. Classroom training will be followed with four weeks of <br />hands -on work experience. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds for this contract are available in the WIA ARRA Youth account <br />(account no. 123- 235 - 6933). <br />25M -1 <br />
