Civil Rights <br />No one applying for or enrolled in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs may <br />be discriminated against because of race, color, creed, handicap, national origin, sex, <br />age, political affiliation, or beliefs. <br />This means that -for any of the characteristics listed above: <br />• You may not be denied the opportunity to enroll in WIA. <br />• No benefits or services may be denied you for discriminatory reasons. <br />• You may not be segregated or treated any differently from other applicants or <br />participants, while you are being registered, interviewed, counseled or tested; or <br />while you are working or attending classes as part of the program. <br />• You must be provided an equal chance to use all facilities available in the <br />program. <br />• Fair employment practices must be provided to all staff with regard to recruiting, <br />hiring, transferring, promotions, training, compensation, benefits, layoff, and <br />termination. <br />You have the right to make a complaint if you feel you have been denied any of the <br />above opportunities. You cannot in any way be penalized for filing a complaint. Your <br />WIA sponsor has established a mechanism for handling complaints and grievances. <br />Your complaint must be filed within 180 days. All complaints will be handled <br />confidentially. <br />3. Nondiscrimination Laws under WIA <br />Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 <br />Prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, or religion. <br />The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 <br />Prohibits arbitrary discrimination against persons age 40-70. <br />The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 <br />Prohibits discrimination based on handicap. <br />Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 <br />4 <br />EXHIBIT C <br />
