Orange County WDBs PY 2025-28 Unified Local Plan <br /> <br />24 | Page <br /> <br />• Support industry transitions to sustainable practices by engaging employers in <br />clean energy, waste reduction, and climate-resilient infrastructure projects. <br />• Leverage funding opportunities to increase workforce participation in green and <br />emerging industries, including renewable energy, sustainable transportation, <br />and environmental conservation. <br /> <br />Future Strategies for Advancing Environmental Sustainability in Workforce <br />Development <br /> <br />To strengthen green workforce initiatives and support the objectives of the HRTP <br />framework and Orange County Climate Action Plan, the WDBs and partners will <br />implement the following strategies: <br /> <br />1. Expanding Green Career Pathways and Apprenticeships <br />• Develop industry-driven training programs in renewable energy, sustainable <br />construction, and climate-resilient infrastructure. <br />• Increase paid apprenticeship and work-based learning opportunities in green <br />sectors to ensure a skilled workforce pipeline for sustainable industries. <br />• Partner with employers to create upskilling programs for workers transitioning <br />from fossil-fuel-based industries to climate-conscious jobs. <br />• Explore partnerships with regional sustainability programs to expand on-the- <br />job training opportunities in green occupations such as solar energy, <br />environmental engineering, and energy efficiency. <br /> <br />2. Strengthening Employer Engagement and Business Sustainability Practices <br />• Engage industry associations, labor unions, and economic organizations to <br />identify emerging job opportunities in clean energy, climate-resilient <br />infrastructure, and green technology. <br />• Work with businesses to develop industry-specific sustainability training <br />programs that prepare workers for climate-focused careers and California’s <br />transition to a green economy. <br />• Promote workforce incentives for businesses adopting sustainable practices, <br />aligning with California’s climate policies and workforce goals. <br />• Support local businesses in adopting clean energy and emission reduction <br />strategies by connecting them to skilled workers trained in sustainability- <br />focused careers. <br />3.
