asset is not excluded from income. For example, if the family received a settlement or back pay <br />and deposited the money in an interest-bearing savings account, the interest from that account <br />would be income at the time the interest is received. <br />Furthermore, if a civil rights settlement or judgment increases the family’s net family assets such <br />that they exceed the HUD-published threshold amount ($50,000 for 2024, and $51,600 for <br />2025), then income will be imputed on the net family assets pursuant to 24 CFR 5.609(a)(2). If <br />the imputed income, which HUD considers unearned income, increases the family’s annual <br />adjusted income by 10 percent or more, then an interim reexamination of income will be required <br />unless the addition to the family’s net family assets occurs within the last three months of the <br />family’s income certification period and the PHA or owner chooses not to conduct the <br />examination. <br />EXHIBIT 1
