Our community business partners that provide <br /> paid work experience to mentored youth include Bracken's Kitchen (Culinary), Seabreeze Management <br /> Company(Property Management),Norooz(Health Clinic), and Greenlight Cyber(Cyber Security <br /> Company).Youth may also receive a stipend to complete a certificate through Sentri Institute (Armed <br /> Guard, Security Guard). Youth employment goals may include pursuit of higher education in post- <br /> secondary institutions or trade schools. To that end, we help youth navigate challenges associated with <br /> collcge/trade preparation, school qualification/entry and financial aid. Once in college or trade school, we <br /> help them stay on the path to graduation. <br /> We also assist youth in the WARP program to access available paid and unpaid job training programs as <br /> well as job opportunities through a wide variety of services including Ca1JOBS, Job Corps, and other OC <br /> job training providers and employment data bases. <br /> Our partners, along with our referral partners offer a wide range of opportunities for youth work <br /> experience, including those qualified under WIOA: <br /> 1. Summer employment opportunities and other employment opportunities available throughout the <br /> school year. <br /> 2. Pre-apprenticeship programs.Pre-apprenticeship is designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed <br /> in an apprenticeship program.Pre-apprenticeship programs include the following elements: <br /> a. Training and curriculum that aligns with the skill needs of employers in the economy of the state <br /> or region involved. <br /> b. Access to educational and career counseling and other supportive services, directly or indirectly. <br /> c.Hands-on,meaningful learning activities connected to education and training activities. <br /> d. Opportunities to attain at least one industry-recognized credential. <br /> e. A partnership with one or more registered apprenticeship programs that assist in placing <br /> individuals who complete the pre-apprenticeship program in a registered apprenticeship <br /> program <br /> 3. Internships and job shadowing. Job shadowing is a temporary,unpaid exposure to the workplace in an <br /> occupational area of interest to the participant and may last anywhere from a few hours to a week or more. <br /> 4. On-the job training(OJT)opportunities. OJT means training by an employer that is provided to a paid <br /> participant while engaged in a job that meets the following criteria: <br /> a.Provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and adequate performance of the job. <br /> b. Is made available through a program that provides reimbursement to the employer of up to 50 <br /> percent of the wage rate of the participant or up to 75 percent in circumstance of extraordinary <br /> costs of providing the training and additional supervision related to the training. <br /> c. is limited in duration to the occupation for which the participant is being trained,taking into <br /> account the content of the training,the prior work experience of the participant, and the service <br /> strategy of the participant as appropriate. <br /> Note that our partner Norooz Health Clinic provides work experience in the Healthcare field and our <br /> partner Greenlight Cyber provides training in the Cyber Security field.These opportunities prepare youth <br /> for work in high demand industries. <br /> Youth employment goals may include pursuit of higher education in post-secondary institutions including <br /> college or trade schools.
