Planning and Building Agency <br />Item # 2 <br />City of Santa Ana <br />20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701 <br />Historic Resources Commission Staff Report <br />May 8, 2024 <br />Topic: HEMA No. 2024-01 – The Lacy-Murray House (501 West 19th Street) <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Adopt a resolution approving a Certificate of Appropriateness for Historic Exterior <br />Modification Application No. 2024-01. <br />EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />Matthew and Nicole Kantelis are requesting approval of Historic Exterior Modification <br />Application (HEMA) No. 2024-01 for the Lacy-Murray House located at 501 West 19th <br />Street. Specifically, the request is to allow exterior modifications consisting of adding a new <br />456-square-foot family and laundry room, and 159-square-foot master bedroom <br />expansion to the west façade; an interior remodel of 1,147 square feet which includes the <br />kitchen, master bathroom and closet, bedroom reconfiguration, and bathrooms; <br />replacement of one (1) original, fixed wood window at the primary (south) façade with a <br />new operable awning wood window with the same dimensions for egress purposes; <br />removal of three (3) original double-hung wood windows and repurpose one (1) at the <br />primary (east) façade; removal of one (1) door from the primary (east) façade and <br />repurpose to the adjacent alcove; and new interior access between the garage and main <br />house. The property was listed as “Key” in 2014 on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties and is a contributor to the National Register-listed Floral Park Historic District. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Project Location and Site Description <br />The subject property is located on a corner lot at the intersection of 19th and Ross streets. <br />It is located on the north side of West 19th Street in the Floral Park National Register <br />Historic District in Santa Ana. The General Plan land use designation for the site is Low <br />Density Residential (LR) and the zoning district is Single Family Residential (R1). The site <br />contains a 2,230-square-foot, Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival style residence, with a <br />detached four-car garage, on a 11,995-square-foot residential lot. The property is known <br />as the Lacy-Murray House built in 1923 and is a contributor to the National Register-listed <br />Floral Park Historic District.
