ARTICLE XIV <br /> 14.0 TRAINING & EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM <br /> 14.1 Employees shall continue to be eligible to participate in the existing Training and <br /> Education Assistance Program provided for all regular, full-time employees of the City; <br /> except, however, reimbursement for eligible employees shall be one hundred percent <br /> (100%) of tuition and registration costs up to a maximum of three thousand dollars <br /> ($3,000), per fiscal year in accordance with the provisions of the program defined in this <br /> section. <br /> 14.2 Pumose. <br /> A. To encourage the employees of the City of Santa Ana to take college courses and <br /> special training courses which will better enable them to perform their present <br /> duties and prepare them for increased responsibilities. <br /> B. To provide financial assistance to eligible employees for education and training. <br /> C. To establish eligibility requirements, conditions and procedures whereby such <br /> assistance may be provided. <br /> 14.3 Eligibility. <br /> A. Applications for tuition reimbursement shall be considered only from full-time <br /> permanent employees who have completed their probationary period. <br /> B. Reimbursement is not authorized for courses for which the employee is receiving <br /> financial assistance from other sources such as G.I. Bill, scholarships, grants, etc. <br /> C. Applications shall be approved only for courses directly related to the employee's <br /> job or directly related to a promotional position in the employee's occupational <br /> specialty. <br /> D. Courses not ostensibly related to the employee's job, but which are required to <br /> qualify for a degree that is directly related to their job will be reimbursable so long <br /> that it meets the requirements in Section 14.3 E. <br /> E. Prior to receiving tuition reimbursement, employees must submit documentary <br /> proof of having received a grade of not less than "C" for the course. If objective <br /> ratings are not rendered for a specific course, then a certificate of successful <br /> completion must be submitted. <br />
