Section 16. Declaration of State of Emergency Emergencies shall <br /> be governed by the provisions of Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 9-194. <br /> Section 17. Compensation of Voluntary Contract Overtime. Exclusive <br /> of other provisions of this Article, except Section 7 (No Effect on Other <br /> Benefits) supra, Police Officers and Police Sergeants who voluntarily <br /> agree to perform contract security services at games, parades, dances and <br /> similar public events shall be compensated at the rate of one and <br /> one-half (1 1/2) times the employee's regular rate of pay. <br /> The Chief of Police shall determine how many off-duty police officers <br /> should serve as security officers at each event. Police Officers and <br /> Sergeants represented by the Association shall be given first opportunity <br /> to volunteer for said off-duty assignments. If, after a reasonable <br /> period of time, an insufficient number of police officers have <br /> volunteered to work such assignments, the Chief of Police may offer the <br /> remaining "openings" to any person(s) he deems capable of performing the <br /> work at whatever straight-time pay rate the City considers to be <br /> appropriate. <br /> ARTICLE IX - HOLIDAYS <br /> Section 1. Legal holidays observed by full-time permanent and <br /> probationary employees covered by this agreement are as follows: <br /> • January 1st - New Year's Day. <br /> • Third (3rd) Monday in January - In observance of Martin Luther <br /> King's Birthday. (Effective January 1990) <br /> • Third (3rd) Monday in February - In memory of George <br /> Washington's Birthday. <br /> • Last Monday in May - In commemoration of Memorial Day. <br /> • July 4th - In observance of Independence Day. <br /> • First (1st) Monday in September - In observance of Labor Day. <br /> • November llth - In observance of Veteran's Day. <br /> • Fourth (4th) Thursday in November - In observance of <br /> Thanksgiving Day. <br /> • The Friday immediately following Thanksgiving Day. <br /> • December 25th - In observance of Christmas Day. <br /> • Last working day before Christmas Day, unless Christmas falls on <br /> a Thursday, in which instance, the day following Christmas Day <br /> shall be observed in lieu thereof. <br /> • One (1) Floating Holiday- Any workday selected by the employee <br /> with prior permission of the employee's supervisor. <br /> • Every day proclaimed by the Mayor of the City as a holiday for <br /> City employees. <br /> Any holiday which falls on a Sunday will be observed on the following <br /> Monday. Any holiday which falls on a Saturday will be observed on the <br /> Friday preceding the Holiday. <br /> -17- <br />
