The special assignment pay differential specified in "B" <br /> above shall be abolished effective upon expiration of this Agreement. <br /> However, any Police Officer or Police Sergeant assigned to any such special <br /> assignments as of December 31, 1983, shall, during the term of this Agreement, <br /> continue to be paid the 5% assignment pay differential until he/she qualifies <br /> and is approved for designation as a Senior Police Officer I, II, III or <br /> Senior Police Sergeant I, II, III under the Police Career Development <br /> Program, or until he/she is removed from any of the special assignments <br /> specified in "B" above by action of the Police Chief, or until the expiration <br /> of this Agreement. No further assignment of police personnel made to any of <br /> the special assignments specified in "B" above on or after January 1 , 1984, <br /> shall be eligible for assignment pay differential. <br /> Section_2. Shift Differential, Non-Sworn Personnel. An employee in the <br /> class of Police Services Dispatcher who is continuously and regularly assigned <br /> to a schedule of work which requires that he or she actually work a minimum of <br /> four and one-half (4 1/2) hours between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. <br /> will be paid a shift differential at a rate set five (5) salary rate ranges <br /> (2.5%) above his or her then current base monthly salary step. Effective July <br /> 1, 1984, said differential shall be increased from five (5) to ten (10) salary <br /> rate ranges (5%) . <br /> Section 3. Bilingual Pay. Qualified employees who meet the following <br /> criteria will be paid a monthly pay differential, above his or her base <br /> monthly salary step, of one hundred dollars ($100.00). <br /> A. Assignment by the Chief of Police or his designee to a position <br /> requiring bilingual capability in both English and one of the following <br /> languages: Spanish, Samoan, Vietnamese or other language designated by the <br /> City Manager; and <br /> B. Certified by the chief personnel officer as having <br /> satisfactorily demonstrated conversational fluency in both languages. <br /> Section 4. All assignments to positions set forth in Sections 1 through <br /> 3 above of sworn and non-sworn personnel shall be made or revoked at the <br /> discretion of the Chief of Police in a fair manner. <br /> ARTICLES' - POLICE CAREER DEVELOPMENT PRQQRAM <br /> Section 1 . Definitions. For the purpose of clarifying the criteria for <br /> the Police Career Development Program designations set forth in Sections 3 <br /> through 9 of this Article, the following definitions apply: <br /> A. Educational Units. One (1 ) completed "semester" unit in an <br /> academic course of instruction approved by the Chief of Police and in an <br /> accredited college or university shall equal one (1) educational unit. One <br /> (1 ) "quarter" unit achieved in an educational institution as above shall equal <br /> 6 <br />
