5: 00 p.m. and 7 : 00 a.m. will be paid a shift differential of <br /> an additional 2 . 5% (5 salary rate ranges) above his or her <br /> then current base monthly salary step. <br /> Section 3. Bilingual Pay. Qualified employees who <br /> meet the following criterial will be paid an additional 1% <br /> above their then current base monthly salary step: <br /> A. Assignment by the Chief of Police or his <br /> designee to a position requiring biligual capability in both <br /> Spanish and English; and <br /> B. Certified by the Director of Personnel as <br /> having satisfactorily demonstrated conversational fluency in <br /> both Spanish and English: <br /> Section 4 . All assignments to position set forth in <br /> Sections l through 3 above of sworn and non-sworn personnel <br /> shall be made or revoked at the 'discretion of the Chief of <br /> Police in a fair manner. <br /> ARTICLE VI POLICE CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM <br /> Section 1. Definitions <br /> For the purpose of clarifying the criteria for the <br /> Police Career Development Program designations set forth in <br /> Sections 4 through '$ of this Article, the following definitions <br /> apply: <br /> A. Educational Units. One (1) completed "semester" <br /> unit in an academic course of instruction approved by the <br /> Chief of Police and in an accredited college or university <br /> shall equal one (1) educational unit. One (1) "quarter" <br /> unit achieved in an educational institution as above shall <br /> equal two-thirds (2/3) of-an educational unit. "Trimester" <br /> units or other standards of measurement used as a basis in <br /> awarding scholastic credits will be accorded the same evaluation <br /> and weight as provided by the respective accredited college <br /> or university. Only completed- coursework credited with a <br /> letter grade of "C" or better (when letter grades are given) ; <br /> or credited with a "Pass" (when evaluated by the "Pass/Fail" <br /> method) will be accepted. If such ratings are not rendered <br /> for a specific course, ,then a certificate of successful <br /> completion must be submitted. <br /> B. Training Units. Twenty (20) classroom <br /> hours or its equivalent of approved police training shall <br /> equal one unit. Regular, periodic on-the-job training <br /> programs shall be considered as fulfilling this requirement. <br /> -7- <br />
