F . The department head will then authorize the Finance <br /> and Management Services Department to reimburse the employee the <br /> approved amount out of the budget of the department concerned. <br /> ARTICLE VIII - OVERTIME <br /> Section 1 . General Policy for Overtime Work. Whenever it <br /> shall be determined to be in the public interest for employees to <br /> perform overtime work, or in an emergency situation, the City <br /> Manager, the Chief of Police, or an authorized representative of <br /> the City Manager or Chief of Police, may require an employee to <br /> perform overtime work. <br /> Section 2 . Definition. <br /> A. Overtime for those employees working the 3/12 - 4/12 <br /> work schedule shall be defined as that authorized or required time <br /> worked in excess of the eighty (80) hours and thirty (30) minutes <br /> required to complete a two week work period or work in excess of <br /> eleven (11) hours and thirty (30) minutes in one day. Work <br /> amounting to less than thirty (30) minutes over the employee' s <br /> regular eleven (11) hours and thirty (30) minutes regular work day <br /> shall not be considered overtime . <br /> B. For all employees, other than those working the 3/12 <br /> - 4/12 Work Schedule, overtime work is defined as that authorized <br /> or required time worked in excess of the regular workday and/or <br /> workweek except that work amounting to less than thirty (30) <br /> minutes in excess of an employee' s regular workday shall not be <br /> considered overtime . Said thirty-minute per-day overtime exclusion <br /> shall apply only to employees exempted from coverage under the <br /> overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) . <br /> A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 <br /> consecutive hours - 7 consecutive 24-hour periods - as designated <br /> by the appointing authority. <br /> Section 3 . Computation of a Workday, Work Week, Work Period. <br /> Paid leave for holidays, sickness, vacation, and other time off <br /> with pay shall be credited towards the total time worked in <br /> computing a regular workday, and/or a work period, as defined <br /> herein. <br /> Section 4 . Compensation for Overtime . <br /> A. The preferable method by which overtime shall be <br /> compensated is by monetary payment, at one and one-half (1-1/2) <br /> times the employee' s regular rate of pay. <br /> 18 <br />
