B . A parent, parent-in-law, spouse, child, brother, <br /> sister, grandparent or grandchild of the employee, regardless of <br /> residence; <br /> C. Any other relative of the employee by blood or <br /> marriage where it can be established by the employee that as a <br /> result of such relative' s death, the employee' s presence is <br /> required. <br /> * For purposes of Bereavement Leave only a day shall be defined as <br /> the regular scheduled hours of the individual employee' s work day. <br /> Section 3 . Military Leave . <br /> A. Proof of Orders and Reinstatements . An employee shall <br /> be granted military leave if he or she furnishes the Chief <br /> Personnel Officer satisfactory proof of his or her orders to report <br /> for duty. Upon return and upon showing proof of actual service <br /> pursuant to such orders, he or she will be reinstated as provided <br /> in Section 9-116 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations of the <br /> City of Santa Ana . <br /> B . Temporary. Members of the reserve forces of the <br /> United States, or the National Guard, granted temporary leave when <br /> ordered to duty, in accordance with the Military and Veterans Code, <br /> will be granted leave with pay not to exceed thirty (30) calendar <br /> days in each calendar year after one year' s service with the City <br /> upon presenting satisfactory proof of orders to and from such <br /> temporary active duties . <br /> Section 4 . Jury and Witness Leave. When an on-duty employee <br /> is called to serve as a juror or a non-party witness in any court <br /> action, he or she shall be allowed leave for the time actually <br /> required for such service, without loss of pay. Each on-duty <br /> employee called for such service shall present to his or her <br /> department head for examination the subpoena calling him or her to <br /> such service and shall pay into the City Treasury the fees <br /> collected for such service, with the exception of reimbursement for <br /> transportation expenses, if any. <br /> Section 5 . Examination Leave . Employees participating in <br /> examinations conducted during their normal working hours for <br /> positions in the competitive service of the City of Santa Ana will <br /> be granted leave with pay for the time actually required, without <br /> loss of any accrued vacation or compensatory time off benefits . <br /> Section 6 . Unauthorized Absence. Unauthorized absence from <br /> duty for any duration of time may be considered cause for <br /> dismissal . Absence from duty without leave for five (5) consecutive <br /> working days shall be deemed a resignation from the service; <br /> provided, however, if upon return to duty the person so absenting <br /> himself makes an explanation satisfactory to the department head of <br /> 31 <br />
