The original stucco <br />covers the exterior. Red-clay-tile clad porticos, accented with heavy <br />triangular knee braces, shelter the open concrete porches. Brick piers <br />with concrete caps occupy each comer of the front of the portico. Double- <br />hung windows, bordered with narrow strips of glass and square corners, <br />are used throughout the duplex. <br />Eli and Ruth Singer built the duplex at 520-22 in 1924, and lived in <br />520 for a few years. He was the manager of Sam Stein's Stationary Store at <br />307 W. Fourth St. The Ashby Turners were the first tenants to occupy <br />522. he was an investment banker with offices on the second floor of the <br />Spurgeon Building. <br />200 BLOCK EAST WASHINGTON STREET:. <br />201 E. Washington St. Keech-Klatt House Neo-classical Revival 1899 <br />One of the finest Neo-classical Revival houses in Orange County, the <br />Keech-Klatt House is crowned with a hipped roof centered with a prominent <br />matching front-facing dormer. Carved brackets, molding-trimmed panels, <br />and a balcony with plain baluster decorate the dormer, while closely- <br />spaced carved brackets line the wide eaves of the main roof. The gabled <br />dormers that face east and west are centered with paired arched double- <br />hung windows. Narrow clapboard siding covers the exterior of the house. A <br />square bay, centered with a horizontal window, cast plaster ornamentation, <br />and double-hung windows, is the centerpiece for the second floor, front <br />facade. Double-hung windows are used throughout the rest of the second <br />floor. A bellcast hipped roof tops the full first floor front porch. Pairs of <br />round wooden columns, edged in molding and resting on clapboard-clad <br />piers, support the porch roof. A balustrade with closely-spaced balusters <br />runs between the piers. A slanted bay window, accented with a plate glass <br />window, leaded glass transom, and double-hung windows is located on the <br />east side of the front door, while a plate glass window with leaded glass <br />transom is located on the west side.
