Opp, a veteran Santa Ana citrus rancher, carpenter, cabinet <br />maker and builder, came to Santa Ana in 1883. After building this house, <br />he and his wife lived here until 1912, when the house was sold . to D. Eyman <br />and Blanche Huff. Mr. Huff was the general manager of the Sunset Fruit <br />Exchange. In 1916 A. Minnie Gardner, the widow of Frank Gardner, bought <br />the house and lived here into the 1940's. Harvey Gardner, who also lived <br />here for a few years, went on to become treasurer of Orange County. <br />327 E. Washington St. Haley House Craftsman Bungalow 1916 <br />A varied gabled roof, accented with triagular knee braces, finials, <br />carved exposed rafter tails, decorative knobs, carved bargeboards, and criss- <br />cross lath ventwork, crowns the two-story Haley House. Two of the gables <br />face the front. Wide clapboard siding covers the top half of the house while <br />narrow clapboards cover the lower half. The single -storied front porch <br />wraps around to the west. The front door is located in the east facade of the <br />porch, in a section enclosed after the house was built. A pergola, accented <br />with carved brackets, extends to the west. It is supported by large square <br />brick columns. A plate glass window, flanked by stationary sidelights, is <br />located to the east of the porch. A second plate glass window was placed <br />next to the front door. A large brick chimney is centered in a slanted bay <br />on the east side of the house. A wooden stairway has. been added to the west <br />facade. <br />Olbert and Ellen Haley were the first owners of this well -detailed <br />Craftsman House. Mr. Haley was a partner in the firm of Haley and <br />O'Conner, which sold Hudson Autos. In 1923 he is listed as a partner in the <br />Dodge Bros. Motor Court at 415 N. Bush. <br />400 BLOCK EAST WASHINGTON STREET <br />401 E. Washington St. Greeley House Craftsman Bungalow ca. 1920 <br />Topped with a gabled roof with matching front porch roof, the house at <br />401 is clad in narrow clapboard siding, trimmed with cornerboards. Single <br />exposed beam ends, exposed rafter tails, and vertical lath venting accent the <br />
