<br />City of Santa Ana | First Street Multimodal Corridor <br />Technical Memorandum <br /> <br />60 <br /> <br />Multi-Use Path Concept: <br />Six travel lanes with a shared pedestrian <br />and bicycle patch on the south side of <br />First Street <br /> <br />Bicyclist Improvements <br /> <br />• Requests for dedicated, clearly marked bike lanes on both sides <br />of the street, buffers/barriers <br />between bike lanes and <br />sidewalks, and improved bike <br />and bus separation. <br />• Support for protected bike paths rather than shared paths, clear <br />pavement markings, and signage to identify bike zones. <br />• Concerns about bike lanes accumulating trash and debris. <br />• Some people support expanded bike lanes for safety while <br />others oppose additional bike lanes due to concerns about traffic impacts. <br /> <br />Pedestrian Improvements <br /> <br />• Requests for additional crosswalks near schools, churches, and bus stops. <br />• Requests for elevated crosswalks, all-way crossings, and shorter crossing distances <br />at smaller intersections . <br />• Support for wider sidewalks, sidewalks flush with street, and trees that supply shade <br />for pedestrians. <br />• Reduction of obstruction in pedestrian zones such as utility boxes and poles. <br /> <br />Safety improvements <br />• Requests for traffic signals for controlled pedestrian crossings, restrictions for right <br />turns at red lights, additional guardrails, barriers, and <br />buffers. between pedestrians, cyclists, buses, and vehicle lanes. <br />• Requests for additional street lighting and illuminated/glow ing crosswalks. <br />• Concerns regarding vehicle speeds. <br /> Roadway/Driver Improvements <br /> <br />• Support for lane reductions to reduce traffic speeds and support <br />for separation of vehicles, buses , bikes , and pedestrian zones. <br />• Suggestions to reduce it to two lanes in each direction and eliminate or consolidate <br />turn lanes. <br />• Request for dedicated bus lanes, improved bus operations, and improve mobility for <br />bus turning movements. <br />• Opposition towards reduced travel lanes due to congestion concerns . <br />
