Becerra, Alexis
From: Jaime Cortez <
Sent: Friday, February 20, 2026 11:37 AM
To: eComment
Cc: Permitparking
Subject: Community of Interest - Residential Parking Permit Program
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing as a resident of our community to formally request that the City evaluate and implement a residential
parking permit program for our neighborhood (see photo below). Over the past several years, parking conditions have
deteriorated to the point where it has become extremely difficult for many residents to reliably find parking anywhere
near our homes, particularly during evenings and weekends.
On a daily basis, a significant number of vehicles with expired registration tags are left parked on our streets for
extended periods of time, effectively occupying spaces that could otherwise serve active residents. In addition, many
cars from neighboring apartment complexes routinely park within our community, further reducing the already limited
number of available spots for those who actually live here. We also have several residents who appear to be using the
public street as long-term storage for multiple personal vehicles, which means that one household may occupy several
street spaces while other residents struggle to find even a single space near their home.
This combination of expired vehicles, non-resident parking, and multi-vehicle street storage has created an environment
where coming home late from work or running simple errands often results in having to park blocks away. For families
with children, elderly residents, and individuals carrying groceries or equipment, walking long distances from distant
parking spots to their homes is both inconvenient and potentially unsafe, especially after dark. The current situation
negatively impacts quality of life, contributes to congestion, and can increase tension between neighbors when disputes
over limited parking arise.
I respectfully request that the City consider establishing a city-regulated residential parking permit program (similar to
those used in other municipalities; i.e. Sandpointe and Bristol Manor)that would prioritize parking for documented
residents and their guests. Such a program could include permits for resident vehicles,time-limited or restricted parking
for non-permit vehicles, and clear enforcement measures for abandoned cars, expired tags, and repeat violations.
Implementing a structured permit system would help ensure that available parking is used fairly, that non-residents do
not monopolize our streets, and that enforcement actions are consistent and transparent.
I would appreciate the opportunity to participate in any surveys, petitions, or studies that may be required to assess
parking demand in our area. Many of my neighbors share these concerns and would welcome a collaborative process
with the City to develop a sustainable solution.Thank you for your time, attention, and consideration of this request to
improve safety, accessibility, and overall livability in our community
1
