Flores, Dora
From:Jason Foggie <jason.foggie@gmail.com>
Sent:Tuesday, March
To:eComment
Subject:Non-agenda item: One Broadway Plaza Project
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council,
My name is Jason Foggie. I am a Ward 6 resident and an architectural designer who cares deeply about the
long-term health, identity, and livability of Santa Ana. I am writing to express my concerns regarding the
proposed One Broadway Plaza development and to urge careful reconsideration of the project as it moves
forward.
As someone familiar with community-centered design and engagement processes, I believe meaningful public
participation is essential to successful development. Projects that create lasting economic and social value are
those shaped through genuine collaboration with the communities they affect. Unfortunately, the format and
execution of the initial Sunshine Meeting did not reflect an open or responsive exchange of ideas. Many
residents left feeling that community input was neither actively sought nor meaningfully incorporated.
This raises broader concerns about process and trust. Major developments—especially those that will define the
skyline and influence downtown Santa Ana for decades—require transparency, responsiveness, and
demonstrated alignment with community priorities. When residents feel excluded from dialogue, it undermines
confidence not only in a single project but in the planning process itself.
I respectfully ask the Council to evaluate One Broadway Plaza through the lens of long-term public benefit
rather than short-term economic promises alone. Key questions worth careful consideration include:
How does this project align with Santa Ana’s adopted planning goals and community vision?
What measurable benefits will remain for residents beyond temporary construction activity?
How will the project affect housing affordability, infrastructure demand, traffic patterns, and
neighborhood character over time?
Has the community been engaged as a genuine partner in shaping outcomes?
Santa Ana deserves development that strengthens existing communities, supports local residents and businesses,
and reflects the values of the people who call this city home. Growth itself is not the concern; rather, it is
whether that growth is inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to community needs.
Although this item may not be on today’s agenda, I urge the Council to continue listening closely to residents
and to apply rigorous scrutiny to this proposal in future deliberations. Your role as representatives of Santa Ana
carries the responsibility to ensure that major developments serve the collective good of the city both now and
for generations to come.
Thank you for your time and for your service to our community.
1
