5.9 Shift Differential Pay <br />A. Non-Sworn Personnel. Employees in the classes of Animal Service Officer I, <br />Animal Service Officer II, Forensic Specialist I, Crime Research Analyst, Forensic <br />Specialist II, Police Communications Supervisor, Police Investigative Specialist, <br />Police Property & Evidence Specialist, Police Service Officer, Police Evidence and <br />Supply Specialist, Police Services Dispatcher, Communications Services Officer, <br />Correctional Officer, (effective March 22, 2026 for Correctional Officer II), <br />Correctional Supervisor and Parking Control Officer who are routinely and <br />consistently assigned to a schedule of work which requires that they actually work <br />a minimum of four and one-half (4 1/2) hours between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and <br />7:00 A.M. will be paid a shift differential at a rate of five percent (5.0%) of base <br />pay. <br />B.Sworn employees covered by this MOU who are routinely and consistently <br />assigned to a schedule of work that requires that they actually work a minimum of <br />four and one-half (4 ½) hours between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. will <br />be paid a shift differential at a rate of five percent (5.0%) of base pay. <br /> <br />The parties agree that to the extent permitted by law, pay for shift differential is special <br />compensation and shall be reported as such, pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(4) <br />and 571.1(b)(3) as Shift Differential. However, CalPERS ultimately determines whether <br />any form of compensation qualifies as special compensation. <br /> <br />5.10 Bilingual Pay. Qualified employees who meet the following criteria shall be paid a monthly <br />pay differential, above their base monthly salary step, as follows: <br />A. Assignment by the Police Chief or their designee to a position requiring bilingual <br />capability in both English and any other language and American Sign Language; <br />and <br />B.Certification is determined by an employee’s passing score on a bilingual <br />proficiency examination. . Employees must recertify for this pay every three (3) <br />years. <br /> <br />C. Sworn: Street Level Proficiency in Spanish. A Police Officer or Sergeant who <br />successfully demonstrates the required level of bilingual fluency as determined by <br />determined by an employee’s passing score on a bilingual proficiency examination <br />shall be paid bilingual pay of equal to the product obtained by multiplying the Step <br />“E” base salary rate of Police Officer by two and one half percent (2.5%) of base <br />pay. <br /> <br />D. Sworn: Complex Level Proficiency in Designated Languages. A Police Officer or <br />Police Sergeant who successfully demonstrates the required level of bilingual <br />fluency as determined by an employee’s passing score on a bilingual proficiency <br />examination shall be paid a bilingual pay equal to the product obtained by <br />multiplying the Step “E” base salary rate of Police Officer by five percent (5%) of <br />base pay. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />
