THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 2025: <br />While at my desk, Detective Sgt. M. Lemmon #3174 notified me of an in-custody death investigation. He requested I <br />respond to the Santa Ana Police Jail and assist with the investigation. <br />1615 HOURS: <br />Santa Ana Police Correctional Supervisor E. Villegas #3098 briefed members of the Santa Ana Police Homicide Unit, <br />Santa Ana Police Professional Standard Inspectors, Orange County District Attorney Investigators and Orange <br />County Sheriff’s Forensic Unit personnel. <br />Supervisor Villegas advised Santa Ana Police Correctional Officers were escorting the decedent, identified as Freddie <br />Washington, and another inmate to the Orange County Jail. On the walk to the Orange County Jail, Washington <br />collapsed. <br />Washington was transported to St. Joseph Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. <br />At the end of the brief, Santa Ana Police Correctional personnel walked us through the jail where the incident <br />occurred. <br />1640 HOURS: <br />Correctional Manager K. Willard #2106 provided me with a flash drive of footage of the incident. A second copy was <br />made, which I booked into evidence. The original flash drive was given to Orange County District Investigators. <br />Investigation continues… <br />F.
