c. Caltrans' Reference Samples Program (RSP) <br />Acceptance Testing and Sampling <br />♦ The selected testing laboratory shall conduct acceptance testing of materials on <br />the first day when work is performed, and continues daily until the work is <br />completed. <br />Reporting Test Results <br />♦ When aggregate sample is taken in the material source, the testing firm shall <br />submit to the Resident Engineer results of sand equivalent, cleanness value and <br />sieve analysis within 24 hours. When soils and aggregate samples are taken at <br />the job site, results of these tests should be submitted within 72 hours. <br />♦ Results of compaction and density tests taken at the job site should be submitted <br />within 24 hours. <br />♦ When samples of soils and asphalt concrete are taken at the job site, R -value <br />and result of asphalt extraction test should be submitted within 96 hours. <br />Independent Assurance Sampling and Testing <br />The selected firm shall establish and maintain an Independent Sampling and Testing <br />(ISAT) program: <br />♦ To verify that the project's sampling and testing is performed correctly by the <br />testers and samplers. <br />♦ To ensure the equipment is properly calibrated. <br />♦ To provide the City with a copy of the program to ensure that the program is <br />carried out. <br />♦ To provide the Resident Engineer with a report indicating actions to be taken by <br />the selected testing firm when discrepancies are found between ISAT and <br />acceptance tests (AT). <br />IV. CITY'S RESPONSIBILITIES <br />1. Furnish construction plans and specifications to the consultant. <br />2. Coordinate with the contractor regarding work schedule and notify the <br />consultant 24 hours in advance for the required inspections and tests. <br />12 <br />
