NO. 07 -058) <br />CITY MANAGE <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1St Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Renew the contract with Midway City Feed Company for animal food in an amount not to exceed <br />$70,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park houses 250 animals in its collection. Each of the 88 different <br />species has special dietary needs. The types of animal food consumed at the Zoo include but not <br />limited to alfalfa, bale mix, bird seed and additional dietary items. The contract for animal food is <br />designed to provide quality products at a significant savings based on quantity pricing. <br />On July 16, 2007, the City Council awarded a contract to Midway City Feed Company for a one -year <br />period with provision for three, one -year renewals. Over the past fiscal period, the Zoo staff <br />branched out in search of new feed vendors for different types of grains and seed. The results <br />cemented Midway City Feed Company as the preferred vendor as it provides the Zoo with enriched <br />dry feed that keeps our animals healthy and active. The expenditures under the current blanket <br />order contract are projected to total $35,000 by the end of June 30, 2011 and $35,000 through June <br />30, 2012. The vendor has performed satisfactorily during the past contract period and has agreed to <br />renew the contract without an increase in pricing.
