It has historically served as a neighborhood park; however, its function as a trailside rest area has grown due to its proximity and connection to the recreational trail. The project improvements will support the needs of all these users. A contract was awarded to Green Giant Landscape, Inc. on March 5, 2012 for the improvements which included: a complete restroom renovation, new drinking fountains, water bottle refilling station, improved picnic areas, and enhanced lighting and landscaping. Also, the project will add an equestrian area with hitching posts and water trough. The Edna Park Restoration project is funded through the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002 (Proposition 50) and is obligatory to statutory requirements. They consist of recreation, habit, flood management, conversion to river parkways and conservative and interpretive enhancements. However, due to the engineer's estimate, the scope of the project was reduced.
