Thank you in advance for you help. <br />Jeff Dickman <br />Honorable Mayor Pulido and Members of the Santa Ana City Council <br />The historic Sexlinger House and Orange Orchard are truly the last intact example of a farm house <br />and citrus orchard in the City of Santa Ana. I ask for your help to add the house, and its <br />accompanying orchard, to the City's Register of Historic Properties. The house and <br />orchard qualify for addition to the City's Register under Criterion 46, because it represents a <br />business that was once common. <br />Recently I spoke at the Historic Resources Commission on this same subject. At that time I noted <br />that we often preserve grand homes because of their distinctive architecture and the live - styles of <br />the people who resided in them. By doing this we often neglect the homes and businesses of the <br />common person, and the role they played in the development of the City. <br />Small -scale citrus growers, like the Sexlingers, not only contributed to the local economy, they also <br />supplied fruit to larger growers for shipment to areas well beyond Orange County. <br />Without your help, the Sexlinger house and orchard will be razed and replaced with tightly packed, <br />single-family homes. If the house and orchard are added to the City's Register their significance <br />will, at the very least, be finally recognized. Recognition is also an important first step to possibly <br />purchasing the land to preserve the house and orchard for future generations to visit and enjoy. <br />Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
