DISCUSSION The Public Works Agency's Street Division is responsible for maintaining roadways within the City of Santa Ana. Services provided under the asphalt pothole repair contract include the repair of potholes and the repair of all damaged pavement areas not exceeding 100 sq. ft., with asphalt overlay. On November 15, 2010, the City Council awarded the asphalt pothole repair contract to Ben's Asphalt, Inc. for a one year period, with provisions for three, one -year renewals. Over the past year, Ben's Asphalt has utilized over 550 tons of asphalt concrete to fix small damaged pavement areas and filled approximately 20,000 potholes. Ben's Asphalt has exceeded performance expectations and has agreed to renew the contract without an increase in pricing. Staff recommends the second renewal of the contract. FISCAL IMPACT Funds for the first seven months of the contract are available in the fiscal year 2012 -2013 Public Works Agency Roadway Maintenance accounting unit ($262,500 in 02917660- 62300). Funds for the remaining five months of the contract will be included in the proposed 2013 -1014 budget.
