• Commented on Agenda Item 55B that applies for a grant for a new <br />park; <br />• Requests that staff include an annual update on the Sunshine <br />Ordinance at a future City Council study session; <br />• Noted that guidelines for federal platform discussed at Legislative <br />Committee; <br />• February 8ch at 9 a.m. the City will host a forum on strategic plan — <br />encouraged residents to review draft and participate; <br />• Spoke of incident over the weekend; need to take personal <br />responsibility and report incidents to the Police Department; build trust <br />and relationships with Police; proposed the City revive the Community <br />Policing Academy. <br />Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Recognized Ron Gonzalez for his service to the community and the <br />OC Register; <br />• Thanked staff for tonight's presentation and staff for ribbon cutting <br />ceremony held earlier today; <br />• Commented on revised City's financial forecast; significant deviation <br />from previous fiscal years; very optimistic; and <br />• Governor's declaration of State of Drought Emergency: Water <br />Resources Manager reported that City on alert and need to be <br />conscience of water usage; City has 2 water sources — ground water <br />and Metropolitan Water District; encouraged all to purchase low usage <br />devices; - not in crisis mode, but all should conserve. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Thanked Ron Gonzalez for efforts covering issues in the City; <br />• Thanked City Manager for positive forecast; <br />• Thoughts and prayers with family of Kim Pham; security and safety is <br />important to the City; witnesses to come forward; and <br />• Adjourn in memory of Kim Pham <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Conserve water and use drought resistant plants; <br />• Support department of education in efforts to fully fund Special Needs <br />program; <br />• Commented on ribbon cutting ceremony at Madison Park; City is <br />leader is joint use ventures; applaud city staff bringing project to <br />fruition; <br />• Participated in YMCA Model Legislation Court; cultivate young <br />residents; <br />• Encouraged all to shop in Santa Ana for Valentine's Day <br />• Prayers to family of Kim Pham; City taking proactive measures. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 19 JANUARY 21, 2014 <br />
