SANTA ANA PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />WORK BASED LEARNING APPRENTICESHIP <br />PAID WORK EXPERIENCE (WEX) POLICY <br />The Seeds to Trees Academy: Digital Media and Information Teclutology Institute at Santa Ana <br />Public Library in partnership with Santa Ana College and its School of Continuing Education will <br />provide paid on- the -job experiences (WEX) and vocational training and certification for WIA <br />eligible youth ages 16 -21 at the Santa Ana Public Library (SAPL) in Digital Media , Information <br />technology and customer service. <br />The operational plan of the Seeds to Trees program combines a paid apprenticeship model that <br />combine on- the -job internship component at the Santa Ana Public Library producing digital <br />media content for the city's CTV3 and Seeds to Trees Spotlight Website, paid externships at <br />local businesses and city departments, as well as related classroom instruction by School of <br />Continuing Education designed to maximize the value of on- the -job experiences, job <br />shadowing, industry specific workshops, and other skill building workshops. <br />Purpose <br />Seeds to Trees Academy: Digital Media and Information Technology Institute: 1.) Introduces <br />WEX student interns to digital media and information technology; 2.) Allows them the <br />opportunity to directly put into practice training learned in class, via the production of <br />video and web content for Santa Ana's CTV3 and "Seeds To Trees Spotlight Website via <br />internships onsite; 3.) Prepares them for employment via externships ; 4.) Provides <br />increase in their literacy and/or numeracy skills; 5.) Prepares them for entry into post- <br />secondary education 6.) Provides Work Based Learning (WEX) interns with opportunities <br />for certifications in, Clerical Office Skills, Microsoft Information Systems, and Google <br />Programing Specialties, 7.) Provides work based learning participants with training <br />leading to college credit, 8.) Provides students the opportunity to learn to work with <br />mentors and peers in ways that are successful and rewarding. <br />Scope of Work <br />Work Base learning apprentices will receive paid training and on -the job experience <br />via through 2 tracks of training: <br />Track I: Out —of- School Youth: Microsoft Office Application certifications and Intermediate <br />Digital Media Apprenticeships (15 participants ): Digital Media Basics: 40 hours, Intro to Marketing: <br />50 hours, Intermediate Digital Media: 100 hours, MOOC's based certification trainings: 50 hours, Work <br />Experience Internship/ Externships: 160 hours (400 Ins ) <br />Track 2: In- School Youth: Microsoft Applications certification and Intermediate Digital Media <br />Apprenticeships (15 Participants): Digital Media Basics: 40 hours, Intro to Marketing: 50 hours, <br />Intermediate Digital Media: 100 hours, MOOC's based certification trainings: 10 hours, Work Experience <br />Internship/ Externships: 100 hours, (300hrs ) <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
