Topic: Legal Issues: Resources <br />Approved Presenter(s): Art Guerrero, Taller San Jose <br />Overview: The Legal Issues: Resources workshop is designed to provide Interns with information on Orange County <br />Court services. Trainees will learn to access public information via the internet and become informed about a typical <br />background check a prospective employer might review. Trainees will also learn the benefits of Penal Code 1203.4 <br />and the criteria for filing for the benefits of dismissal and Certificate of Rehabilitation. <br />Life Skills: Problem - solving <br />Learning Objective: <br />After attending this lesson, trainees will be able to: <br />✓ Access their own public court record <br />✓ Become familiar with the dismissal process of criminal convictions <br />✓ Be better prepared to respond to questions related to past convictions when interviewed <br />✓ Contact the Public Defender's office for criminal conviction dismissal assistance <br />Materials /Resources: <br />• Physical address of the Public Defender's office and information on their New Leaf Program including website <br />address (http: // www .pubdef.ocgov.com / newleaf.htm). <br />• Copy of the forms for "Dismissal" to be submitted under Penal Code section 1203.4 (Available at: <br />http: // www .pubdef.ocgov.com /newleaf.htm under "Dismissal" section) <br />Topic: Civic Engagement 101. <br />Approved Presenter(s): <br />✓ Orange County Registrar of Voters (714) 567 -7600 <br />✓ Michele Martinez, City of Santa Ana Councilwoman Councilwomanmartinez @gmail.com or (714) 647 -6900 <br />Overview: The Civic Engagement workshop will address the importance of civic engagement and how it is a <br />demonstration of responsible citizenship. Trainees will explore the reasons why people often hesitate to become <br />involved in solving problems and consider ways in which they can be "part of the solution" rather than a "part of the <br />problem." Trainees will also be introduced to the voting process and voting myths.
