The National Register of Historic
Places is the official Federal list of
districts, sites, buildings, structures,
and objects significant in American
history, architecture, archeology,
engineering, and culture. National
Register properties have significance
in the prehistory or history of their
community, State, or the nation. The
National Register is maintained by the
National Park Service on behalf of the
Secretary of the Interior.
National Register Bulletins provide
guidance on how to identify, evaluate,
document, and register significant
properties. This bulletin is designed
to help preparers properly select,
define, and document boundaries for
National Register listings and deter-
minations of eligibility. It includes
basic guidelines for selecting bound-
aries to assist the preparer in complet-
ing the National Register Registration
Form. Examples of a variety of
property types are presented. These
examples illustrate several ways to
address boundary issues.
75B -451
This bulletin was prepared by
Donna J. Seifert, archeologist, under a
cooperative agreement between the
National Conference of State Historic
Preservation Officers and the Na-
tional Park Service.
Carol D. Shull
Keeper,
National Register of Historic Places
National Park Service
U. S. Department of the Interior
