Saint Cloud and Red River Valley <br />Stage Road — Kandota Section, Todd <br />County, Minnesota, is the best pre- <br />served section of the road built by the <br />Minnesota Stage Company in 1859. <br />The property is significant for its <br />association tiAth the transportation <br />history of Minnesota, as defined in the <br />Overland Staging Industry in Minne - <br />sota,1849 -1880, Multiple Property <br />Submission. The property meets the <br />following registration requirements: <br />conforming. to the original route; <br />being unimproved, passable, and <br />distinct from the surrounding land; <br />being long enough to evoke a sense of <br />destination or direction; and retaining <br />the wooded setting of the area's <br />condition during the period of signifi- <br />cance. The land beyond the north- <br />west end of the nominated property, <br />which has been plowed, bears no <br />signs of the road and is therefore <br />excluded from the nomination. <br />Reasonable limits were used to define <br />the National Register boundaries. <br />Verbal boundary description: The <br />property consists of a six -foot -wide <br />strip of land centering on the line <br />delineated on the accompanying map <br />(USGS 7.5 minute series, West Union, <br />Minnesota, Quadrangle). The line <br />connects the following UTM reference <br />points: A 15 344350 5070710, $15 <br />344120 5070890.
