The area <br />is characterized by a mixture of different building types as well as the <br />haphazard mixture of old and new development. Residential and <br />commercial areas alike possess a disjointed appearance typically <br />encountered along urban arterials where development is composed of <br />buildings of different types and ages. The age of development <br />increases moving south along Bristol Street while, correspondingly, <br />physical deterioration and maintenance deficiencies also rise noticeably. <br />It is apparent that most of the subject segment of Bristol Street <br />originally consisted of single- family residential development that has <br />incrementally given way to commercial and other non - residential uses. <br />In numerous instances, older, single- family residences along the street <br />have been converted to commercial use. These conversions usually <br />degrade the design quality of the building, resulting in an appearance <br />which seems inappropriate to the use. More recent commercial <br />756-97 <br />
