Commit to Health <br />19. Please describe your agency's experience or interest with adopting/implementing <br />healthy eating and/or physical activity standards in your out-of-school time <br />programming. <br />The City of Santa Ana Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency's motto is Learn, Have Fun, Get Fit and Be <br />Respectful. The Department has lived up to its expectation of fit and walkability as it has opened parks that are within <br />walking distance, which also consist of amenities such as exercise equipment and walking/biking trails to name a few. <br />Recently the division inaugurated Memory Lane Park. This beautiful park boasts impressive exercise equipment, <br />located adjacent to a walking and bike trail. This park is complimented by the curriculum of the CATCH Program <br />previously mentioned, as well as the City's efforts to continue with the adoption of the Strategic Plan on Health and <br />Wellness and the opening of the Community Garden at EI Salvador Park. <br />10. Section 111. Additional Grant Elements <br />20. One of the grant goals is to implement meal and program efficlencles that increase <br />community sustainability by addressing food waste within these meal programs. <br />NRPA will provide each grantee with a best practices guide for reducing food waste <br />in out-of-school time programs. Please describe your agency's interest in <br />implementing new strategies and practices to reduce food waste (e.g. composting, <br />share table, food donation, etc.). <br />The approach the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency, will be to engage our neighborhood <br />Association and collaborate with Non -Profits to develop buy -in and supportfor the project. Community Services <br />Supervisors as well as Program Coordinators and Recreation Leaders, will assist in engaging the community through <br />integrated marketing and outreach efforts, to learn about the practice of reducing food waste. <br />21. An important part of helping youth to develop healthy habits is to encourage <br />those habits in the home. Please describe how your agency currently engages <br />parents/caregivers in your out-of-school time programs and how you will engage <br />them in the grant elements around nutrition and physical activity? <br />Our vision is to create a framework detailing the importance of healthy eating habits, in order forthe community to <br />gain knowledge of the program and how to reach the goal on healthy eating and exercising. The outreach will include <br />alternative means of food resources such as cooking materials and gardening. This will also provide the residents <br />who visit the parks and community centers with resources available to them in the areas of health and exercise. <br />22. NRPA will be conducting an evaluation to gather data and measure the level of <br />increase in nutrition and healthy living knowledge and behavior as a result of the <br />grant. If selected to participate, is your agency willing to host focus groups (the <br />program staff and participants) and administer surveys as part of the evaluation? <br />Yes <br />11. Budget <br />
