If other please state below::
Funds to support production of a professional grade comic book.
Artist Statement:
I have been involved in street and comic art for over 25 years. I seek to create a project
that can be a voice for graffiti writers, comic fans and most of all, a city that I love.
"Downtown" is a comic book project 10 years in the making. I intend it to be a showcase
for the city it is set in, as well as, an ongoing commentary on the state of street art. With
the city of Santa Ana's support, I can finally give this long awaited project the life and
voices it has been longing for.
Narrative for proposed use of funds::
To produce a professional comic book that is suitable for nationwide distribution, a team
of professional comic artist must be utilized for its production. I am a professional comic
book colorist and graphic artist, so my normal professional fees are 'in kind' along with
my writing and scripting of the project. The artists fees listed in the 'budget' are minimal
standard fees for the professional comic book industry. Some artists being sought are
local, while others are distant. All work will be coordinated by myself from my
studio/gallery in Santa Ana
Supplemental Question 'I:Please describe any additional City of Santa Ana
resources required for your project (permits, public space, licenses etc.)?:
Just need the city to keep being the beautiful city that it is.
Supplemental Question 2: Is this a new or existing program/project?:
NEW
Supplemental Question 3: How will the proposed project be presented or shared
with the public? Will the art display, event or performance be free and accessible
to the public?:
Once completed, the project will be solicited to American Mythology Publications (AMP)
for national solicitation and sales. If accepted, the book with be solicited nationwide to
various comic book and collectable dealers for preferred quantity orders, with AMP
managing production with Diamond Distributors (Montreal, QBC).
Supplemental Question 4: How will this project enrich the Santa Ana arts and
culture community?:
As stated, Batman had Gotham, and now our hero, 'Burn' has the eclectic and historic
'downtown' Santa Ana city as his backdrop for standing up to evil doers and the corrupt
that may want to take over this gothic metropolis. RARELY does the comic book world
get to witness an actual city featured as the background in a heroic story. It will shine a
light on the city as a prideful place that believes in justice, the arts and most of all, its
people.
