Artist • Designer + Educator
814 S. Earlham, Orange, CA 92869 ® 714-288-9441-h
genej@me.com " 714-337-4363-c
Portfolio: www.studlogene.com
Gene's influence as a professor at the University of Redlands has held with me years after
graduating. Anxious to be in his mayterm class not once, but twice, his outlook as a creative was
inspiring to me, while trying to find myself as a designer. Gene's approach to "being an artist" led
many of us to continue to seek him for advice and trust him based on his experience. His
perspectives were fresh and he could relate to us. My peers and I always hoped for other design
classes offered by Gene, but we were too late and graduated soon after. 1 believe my peers and 1
would agree - Gene is a great professor. Because of him, I am still "being" an artist.
Jenna Tempkin, Web Content Developer at Solar Gard, University of Redlands, 2010
It will be hard to write a recommendation that does full justice to Gene Jimenez as a professor in
this small field, however/ will do my best...
I was fortunate enough to take two classes from Gene during my time at the University of
Redlands. Gene's passion for whichever subject he is teaching, and the depth to which he
engages students and asks them to challenge themselves and truly learn, stands far above any
other professor 1 have had in all of my years of schooling.
His approach to education - a very student -centered experience that asks both maturity and
enthusiasm to explore and learn from each individuals' own perspective - creates an atmosphere
that fosters not only a valuable learning experience of the class subject area, but an invaluable
learning experience of oneself. He asks students to reflect what he teaches, and not only
engage, but absorb and process. These are methods that remain with students and continue to
inspire, long after they have graduated.
Gene brings positive energy and his expertise - in art, in life, in people - to every class, and his
students leave each encounter with bits and pieces of that energy and expertise as sparks of
inspiration. These do not stand alone, however, but Gene teaches students to enmesh what they
have learned within their own webs of life and apply them to their individual experiences and
vocations.
His approach to teaching is exceptional and unparalleled. My only reservation having Gene as a
professor at the University of Redlands was the fact that he was only an adjunct. There are
countless students who could benefit from his brilliance and genuine approach to teaching. More
time with Gene in a classroom means more goodness and thoughtfulness in this world. What
more could education ask for?
Rena Satre Meloy, University of Redlands, 2009
Gene is an excellent professor who's teaching goes beyond artistic skill and technique, and into
the vitally important philosophical foundation of being a career artist. Gene's teaching and
continued support have been --and continue to be --a valuable asset both professionally and
personally.
Angelico Tolentico, graphic designer and photographer, , University of Redlands, 2011
