NaphCare will provide oral screenings by a dentist or certified dental assistant no later than fourteen <br />(14) days from the inmate's date of admission. <br />DENTAL CARE <br />NaphCare's dental program complies with NCCHC and ACA standards by which inmates receive dental <br />treatment, not limited to extractions, when the health of the inmate would otherwise be adversely <br />affected. Treatments include any other services deemed necessary by the contracted dentist. <br />Additionally, we ensure that inmate's serious dental needs are met <br />following NCCHC standards. We provide dental services in <br />accordance with established guidelines for dental evaluation and <br />treatment. An established priority system is used to guide <br />treatment decisions and proper infection control procedures are <br />utilized for all oral treatment procedures. Documentation is <br />standardized in the health record to better document dental health <br />conditions and treatment in order to enhance communication <br />among healthcare staff. <br />The dental program begins with the Intake Screening, administered <br />by a healthcare professional specifically trained by the contracted <br />dentist. The results of this assessment are relayed to the dentist for <br />review and referral, if indicated. At any time during incarceration an <br />inmate can be referred to the dentist. Treatment services provided <br />by the on -site dentist reflect contracted services identified by the <br />Jail. <br />We provide emergency and medically required dental care for inmates with an emphasis on relieving <br />pain and attending to urgent or emergent dental needs. Dental services, except for urgent or emergent <br />care, are provided during regular clinic hours. Emergency dental services are available on a 24 hour a <br />day basis. We institute periodic performance measurements to ensure that inmates have timely access <br />to dental care. NaphCare provides the following dental services for inmates: <br />• Health Assessment, which includes a Dental Screening and Hygiene Examination <br />• Dental assessments for inmates who request dental services for urgent/emergent needs <br />• Emergency and routine dental care <br />Temporary fillings <br />• Incision and drainage <br />Control of bleeding <br />• Necessary emergency surgery <br />• Clinically indicated extractions <br />• Referral to dental specialist if needed <br />• Medically necessary dental -related prescriptions <br />Our services do not limit dental treatment to extractions. We provide an appropriate and timely <br />response to requests for dental services. Dental emergencies are addressed immediately.
