I believe it is in the best interest of Santa Ana to make sure any redistricting is done by ward. I do not want my vote diluted because the original redistricting was done by city and not by ward. The only FAIR way to make sure every candidate that is willing to serve has an equal chance of winning an election. Unless redistricting is done AFTER any ward boundaries are changed the redistricting will not properly represent the voters in the ward. There will not be a FAIR representation for the ward. NS -2826 Attachments: SEC 101-2jpg Mayor and City Council Members, If you read Sec 101.2 of the City Charter which covers Ward Boundary changes, it clearly states there are ONLY 3 reasons why it would be reasonably necessary to redraw Ward Boundaries: Shown necessary by most recent Federal Decennial Census Data more current census data certified by the City Council as sufficiently reliable and detailed to serve as a basis forward boundary alteration or by annexation or consolidation of territory Our city redraw ward boundaries in 2012 using the 2010 Census data, and we have not annexed or consolidated any new territory into our city. So when did the city council certify more current census data, other than the 2010 Census data, to be reliable and detailed to serve as a basis for ward boundary alteration? The Demand Letter dated March 6`h-2018 from the Asian Americans Advancing Justice regarding the CVRA violation does not mention anything about requiring the Ward Boundaries to be redrawn or altered. The Demand Letter only asks that our city transition from At -large to District -based elections. So if we are still using the 2010 Federal Census Data and we have not met any of the 3 criteria mentioned in Sec 101.2 of the City Charter, then there is absolutely nothing reasonably necessary to redraw Ward Boundaries since we already did that in 2012.
