This email is in response to the Notice of Public Hearing related to the Mainplace Mall Transformation Project and the
associated Resolution of Intent to Vacate Mainplace Drive between Main Street and Bedford Road. The City of Orange
expresses the following concerns over the proposed street vacation:
1. The realigned private drive aisle that replaces the vacated segment of Mainplace Drive provides a lower
capacity, less direct option for motorists having an origin on/via Main Street and destination on/via Bedford,
including the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA.) This could potentially affect long-standing traffic
patterns around OCTA and, at the same time, increase traffic on Main Street and La Veta Avenue. Moreover,
the proposed change could affect the quality of route options (access) to and from the OCTA parking garage for
both employees and visitors; and
2. If in the future, said private drive aisle were to be closed off, e.g., gated, deleted, or otherwise not traversable,
there could be potential diversion onto streets and intersections owned and operated by City of Orange.
