I am writing in regards to item 75C to support the construction of a safe skate space in the future park on the current vacant lot on Raitt and Myrtle. The youth of Santa Ana deserve a safe space where they can be active and healthy and enjoy the few green open spaces the city has to offer. Council members should also be thinking of the future of our city and increasing investment in programs and spaces for youth to have a safer growing environment. Other surrounding cities in Orange County have more than 2 skateparks for their youth and Santa Ana, being one of the youngest and most densely populated cities in America, only currently has 1. I ask the council to please support the construction of this safe skate space that will benefit the entire community and the youth of our city. Thank you, Maria R. 3 Mitre -Ramirez, Norma From: Evelyn Torres< Sent: Tuesday, October 15, 2019 12:04 PM To: eComment Subject: Item 75C To whom it may concern to, My name is Evelyn. I am a youth resident here in Santa Ana and I live on W. Walnut and Raitt zip code 92703. I support the building of a safe skate space on the future park on the currently vacant lot on Raitt and Myrtle. I believe that it will be a missed opportunity to create a more active and healthier city if you do not approve the creations of safe skating spaces for the residents in Santa Ana. In neighboring cities, they have more safe skate spaces for their residents and this allows youth like myself to have a creative outlet in a safe area. It is truly devastating to see that not enough funds go to investing in the youth of the future. I ask that you please support the building of a safe skate space on the vacant lot on Raitt and Myrtle. I work in the City of Santa Ana, and I see many of the youth riding their skateboards to and from school, or around the neighborhood. It would be nice if the City of Santa Ana could provide them with a dedicated space that allows the youth to play and use their skateboards in a safe environment. Accordingly, I support the construction of a skate park/skateplaza in the future park on the Raitt & Myrtle lot. It is crucial for the city to create more safe spaces for youth to remain active and healthy. Supporting this item will promote several of the strategic goals stated in the General Plan for the City of Santa Ana: Community Safety (Strategic Goal No. 1); Youth, Education, Recreation (Strategic Goal No. 2); and Community Health, Livability, Engagement & Sustainability (Strategic Goal No. 5). 1 ask that you increase investment in positive youth programs and spaces within Santa Ana. I am a single mother of two Daughters. And I am hoping that you will approve e skatepark project on Raitt. My kid's and many other in Santa Ana are lacking in spaces to be outside and get excerise, let off steam and be kids. The are not enough skateparks in our city to give that to our youth. And they desperately need it. We can't expect them to grow up to be good leaders and community members if we don't allow them to be free, healthy and happy children. I live in the area of 92704 and there is only one skatepark in the entire area of Santa Ana in Centennial Park near Godinez Fundamental High School and I see youth from different areas of Santa Ana coming to the only park with an area dedicated to skateboarding. For this reason I support the construction of the Skatepark/ plaza on the Raitt and Myrtle lot. It keeps youth active and out of trouble so they have a space to do what they enjoy. We need more investment in youth programs so they can be prepared to make the important decisions of the future for the city and have safe spaces where they can be active in their community.
