Subject: Non -Agenda Item June 2nd City Council Meeting
Dear City Council.
I strongly encourage the city council to make a public statement against the excessive police force employed
across the nation (as well as here in Santa Ana) in murdering our Black community members so as to better
allow for healing in our communities to take place as opposed to furthering harm.
I am also severely disappointed in the unnecessary police response employed on Saturday and Sunday nights
(May 30th and May 31 st, 2020). If the protests arose because of police abuse of power and violence against
George Floyd in Minneapolis, it is inappropriate that our city (and other surrounding cities' police forces) would
respond so harshly to crowds here in Santa Ana. The SAPD police response of using tear gas and rubber bullets
against the leftover crowd on Sunday night (without warning to the crowd or provocation from the protestors) is
exactly the excessive force which protestors aimed to protest against. Additionally, it did not go unnoticed that
the law enforcement helicopters which monitored the March on Sunday, did NOT enter the airspace above
Floral Park (despite the March walking through Floral Park) which shows the true intent of airborne law
enforcement here in Santa Ana - to criminalize and instill fear in the least economically advantaged
neighborhoods of our cities. I encourage our city council members to push for better transparency regarding
policing tactics in our communities so that community members can be informed of the true extent to which the
police aim to protect and serve us (or not).
Sincerely,

Subject: Fireworks
Dear Leaders;
I come with many thanks and appreciation for all your efforts and support for our community in these hard and trying
times with a concern that has been growing in my thoughts for everyone's safety.
Fireworks have become a bigger threat and now being used for as weapons against our first responders and could easily
escalate into fires and danger for all.
I'm very aware you have so much to deal with right now, but it would ask that there be a ban on all fireworks. I know
that the ones we hear are mostly illegal since they are not even sold right now and are being used in the demostraciones
as weapons. I need not to go into the many situations that this could happens since I'll sure you much more aware of
this possibility.
A better place to enjoy is when professionals put on a show for our Holidays, mainly the 4th of July.
Thank you again for all your hard work and support for all our city.

Securing our city via Curfew during the George Floyd demonstrations
Dear Mr. Mayor, Councilmembers and City Staff;
Many of us are wondering why Santa Ana seems to be taking such a lackadaisical approach to securing our town from
rioting, looting and mayhem?? Other cities around us have curfews....... and in most cases earlier than ours. We didn't
have a curfew last night and we got LUCKY. We need to stop engaging in weak defense and embrace an offense. Let's
get ahead of this.......... announce that the capital city of OC will have nightly curfew at 7pm for the next week and if we
see fit to elilminate it earlier ........ great.
We need to LEAD.......... not follow everyone else. We are the county seat, let's act like it. And goodness knows we are
too often the target of these types of bad actors. The folks that want to peacefully protest with a permit during daylight
hours...... great. Otherwise take your pitchforks, bricks and torches somewhere else.
Thanks for your leadership,
Respectfully, Tim Rush

Council members, thank you for the opportunity to ask questions.
1) Can you confirm that all Santa Ana police officers are required to wear body cameras?
2) Can you explain what steps are being taken to ensure policing is done as fairly and as non-violently as
possible?
Thank you,
Ashley and Daniel Landry

Dear Mayor, City Council Members and Staff,
I agree with Mr. Rush. Please implement an earlier curfew at least for the next week. Your residents and businesses are
feeling uneasy and need a proactive plan for our security.
