DISCUSS AND CONSIDER DIRECTING CITY MANAGER TO DIRECT STAFF TO DRAFT ORDINANCE WITHIN 30 DAYS THAT PROVIDES REQUIREMENTS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE TO ENHANCE SECURITY, PREVENT TRESPASSING, AND MAINTAIN CLEAN APPEARANCE FOR VACANT PROPERTIES - Councilmembers Bacerra and Penaloza To Mayor and City Councilmembers, At the City Council Meeting held on May 19, 2020 I was disappointed that during discussion of Item 85B there was NO mention of the historic Cypress Fire Station. The Cypress Fire Station is #15 on the Santa Ana Register of Historic Properties and is located in Ward 2 @ 625 S. Cypress Avenue, in Pacific Park Neighborhood. Property neglect and code violations have been observed and documented over many years. Both the neighborhood and preservation community suffer from the affects this property's deterioration and over time from vandalize a loss of character defining architectural features. As Staff moves forward with a DRAFT ORDINANCE THAT PROVIDES REQUIREMENTS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE TO ENHANCE SECURITY, PREVENT TRESPASSING, AND MAINTAIN CLEAN APPEARANCE FOR VACANT PROPERTIES - it is of utmost importance that ALL currently listed Santa Ana Register of Historic Properties should come first and ALL property owners be held equal responsible, including the City. Please note that a property regarded by the City as "surplus property" should not be exempt or held separate, now & under the new ordinance from all other vacant or neglected properties. * A sample violations at the Cypress Fire Station are shown in the photos below - Thank you, Ginelle Hardy Historic Resources Commissioner Heninger Park, President ginelleann cggmail.com AW r
