Subject: Comments for tonight's Council Mtg
January 10, 2021
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
My comments related to this evenings City Council Meeting Agenda are related to Consent Calendar
Item I 1 and 12 regarding the South Main Street Corridor Improvements Project.
At the recent January 12, 2021 Interactive Community Virtual City of Santa Ana Public Works Agency's
"Learn About the Project Updates for South Main Street Corridor" meeting the following concerns were
brought forward by residents and discussed with City staff:
1. Leasing of City Parking Lots located at S. Main (@ Pine) and S. Main (between W. Cubbon & McFadden) -
Both of these City parking lots are located in Heninger Park Neighborhood - Objection to the leasing of these
City Parking Lots & an objection to putting them into a Surplus Land Act or such allocation is due to record of
lack
of maintenance of such properties in the City AND the lack of staff & teacher & parent & visitor parking at
Franklin
Elementary School AND the need for free off street day time parking with no street sweeping days for
residents,
schools, shoppers.
2. Peebler Fund Capital Project Revenue - Community stakeholders would like opportunity for a final approval
of Street Furniture, Street Lighting, Historic South Main Business District Archway improvements, etc.
3. Underground Smart Fiber @ 1 st Phase Utilities - Residents and S. Main Street neighborhoods are requesting
purchase & installation of Smart Fiber - that MUST be accomplished at during 1st Phase, per Public Works
Agency
4. South Main Street residents and neighborhoods have a vision for a unique NICHE IDENTITY for South
Main,
also known by Historic Highway Old Route 101-A. An Architectural Survey, Adaptive Reuse Overlay,
Preservation
and Rehabilitation of existing buildings and uses are being looked at a path to temper new development on
South Main Street.
Thank you for your interest in the improvement of South Main Street.
Sincerely,
Ginelle Hardy
Heninger Park Neighborhood, President
