Subject:ITEM #16
Hello City Staff, Council members, and Honorable Mayor,
I adamantly disagree with the proposal to remove handball courts and other outdoor facilities from our Santanita
Park. Our city loves the handball courts and they are a part of our outdoor traditions. This is the complete
opposite of park improvement and it robs our residents of outdoor activities that enrich our lives during a
worldwide pandemic where we find ourselves with an incredible need to find safe activities to do outside of our
homes. I would like to suggest that the city ask the community near Santanita Park what THEY would like to
see improved in their park. I am sure they will have plenty of viable ideas that will actually IMPROVE our
parks and be relevant to our community’s use of the park. In Santa Ana, we already have so few spaces to be
outside. Please don’t take from the little that we already have, especially not during these pressing times.

Subject:handball courts in Santa Nita
Greetings Mayor and Council
I’m Sending this email to urge you to keep the Handball courts open
As you may know Handball is a very popular sport among Hispanics.
We need to provide much needed recreational spots for our youth.
This area has very little to offer for physical activity.
Thank you
Gilbert Sanchez

Subject:Item 16 Opposing Handball Court removal
City Council Members,
I’m writing to ask you to please NOT remove the handball courts at Cesar Chavez/Santa Anita park.
I live in the neighborhood and we frequent this park often with our dog and kids. Our family has lived in this
neighborhood since the 1950’s and these courts are staple and a part of our history here. We see them being used every
time we got to the park.
This is the worst possible time to even consider removing or rebuilding at the park as so many of our local families are
counting on these spaces as a way to keep ourselves and our kids active. Many of the families in this neighborhood do
not have access to open spaces to run and play and the this park . . . the handball courts and the basketball courts are
vital to our mental and physical health.
Thank you for listening and taking the needs of the residents to heart and for making sure that our voices are
represented and listened to in earnest, Marlha Sanchez

Subject:Item 16 Santa Anita Handball Courts
My name is Bulmaro Vicente and I am a longtime resident of Santa Ana. I am here to oppose item 16 and to
advocate keeping the handball courts in Santa Anita Park. I've been playing handball since I was 11 years old.
Handball was the sport that kept me in school. I remember my dad taking me to school early and picking me up
late because I played all day. Handball remains a vibrant significant culture in Santa Ana, and tearing down
these courts removes the communities along with them. I hope the council reconsiders this item and preserve
ALL the handball courts in Santa Ana.
Best,
Bulmaro
