BUSINESS CALENDAR
1. HISTORIC EXTERIOR MODIFICATION APPLICATION NO. 2019-11
LOCATION: 1228 North Broadway (historically known as El Patio Real Apartments) located
in the Midtown Specific Plan (SP3) zoning district.
REQUEST: The applicant is requesting approval of historic exterior modification application
to allow exterior modifications to above mentioned property.
Commissioners Christy, Tardif, Rush, and Schaefer disclosed they drove by the property.
Case Planner Gomez provided a staff presentation. Commission discussion ensued
regarding existing use, landscape, demolition plan, windows, balcony, architectural style,
and history of building.
Recording Secretary reported that no written communication was received.
Chair Christy opened the Public Hearing. The applicant spoke in support of the matter and
answered questions regarding landscape, balcony, and windows. There were no other
speakers and the Public Hearing was closed.
MOTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2020-02. A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC
RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING THE
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1228
NORTH BROADWAY (HISTORIC EXTERIOR MODIFICATION APPLICATION NO. 2019-11)

LOCATION: 2510 North Valencia Street (historically known as the Taylor-Oglesby House)
located in the Single Family Residential (R-1) zoning district.
REQUEST: The applicant is requesting approval of a historic exterior modification
application to allow exterior modifications to above mentioned property.
Chair Christy disclosed that she drove by the property. Commissioners Schaefer and Tardif
disclosed they met with the applicant.
Case Planner Gomez provided a staff presentation. Commission discussion ensued
regarding elevations, secretary of interior standards, and appropriateness of proposed
materials.
Recording Secretary provided a summary report of written correspondence received.
Chair Christy opened the Public Hearing. The applicant spoke in support. Commissioner
Tardif read aloud comments submitted by members of the public. There were no other
speakers and the Public Hearing was closed.
MOTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2020-03. A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC
RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING THE
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 2510
NORTH VALENCIA STREET (HISTORIC EXTERIOR MODIFICATION APPLICATION NO.
2020-03)

3.STAFF MEMBER COMMENTS:
Executive Director Thai
•Thanked Commissioners.
Planning Manager Fregoso
•Reported that the final HRC memo will be forwarded to City Council on June 16.
•Provided update on the Pacific Symphony Building, and outlined the process for
securing vacant buildings.
4.COMMISSION MEMBER COMMENTS
All commissioners congratulated Chair Christy on being awarded Person of the Year by
the Santa Ana Chamber, and thanked staff and the applicants.

•Inquired about the Historic Preservation Awards.
Commissioner Murashie
•Provided an update on the Howe-Waffle House.
Commissioner Rush
•Expressed concern regarding security of vacant historic buildings.
Commissioner Tardif
•Reported that the Historical Society is in need of contributions.
ADJOURNED 6:48 P.M. – The next meeting of the Historic Resources Commission will be
on July 2, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
