Mayor Sarmiento and City Council Members,
I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of the companies bidding on this contract actually wants to lower
rates. That is important in these tough times. Lowering residents’ monthly bills by almost $5 might not seem
like a lot of money to some people, but it adds up. I think we need to be doing all we can for people right
now, and this seems like an easy, sensible thing to do. The proposal by Athens Services is the only one that
lowers peoples’ bills, so it makes sense to continue to negotiate with them.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Fernando Orozco

Mayor Sarmiento and City Council Members,
I appreciate the amount of time and effort that has been put into evaluating the various companies for
this new contract. There is a lot of information in the staff report, but—at the end of the day it comes down
to cost and service. What is this new contract going to cost Santa Ana residents? The short answer is, it may
cost more if the City Selects CR&R or Waste Management, and it may cost less, if it selects Athens Services. I
think the choice is clear: Athens Services is right company to service Santa Ana residents. They already sweep
our streets and know our community.

Mr. Sarmiento and City Council Members,
We live in very difficult times. Many people find themselves unemployed and living hardships financially. With
this being said there are very few areas where people could save a buck or two. We have an opportunity to
save money with the trash service. So why wouldn’t we? Both CR&R and Waste Management are raising the
rates on our trash pick-up. Why would we go with companies that are costing us more? Athens Services is the
only company that is actually saving us money. Why would we not go with the most cost effective?
Thank you for your time.

Mayor Sarmiento and City Council Members,
CR&R doesn’t have the best safety record. Didn’t they start the fire last year which cost hundreds of families
their homes and even some people’s lives? We are seriously considering them? Not to mention they are raising
the rates? So we are to pay for their safety record?
Then you have Waste Management who also wants to raise the rates?
No thanks, I would rather go with Athens who has the lowest rate.
Thank you

February 15, 2021
Honorable Mayor Sarmiento and City Council Members,
I admit trash and recycling service is something I have taken for granted, but when I see that the City might
raise my monthly bill, I start to pay attention. You are considering three companies for the new contract but
only one of those companies—Athens Services—is going to lower rates. For that reason alone, I encourage
the City to continue negotiations with Athens.
Thank you.

Honorable Mayor Sarmiento and City Council Members,
I urge you to select the company that is going to be least expensive for the residents of the City of Santa
Ana. The staff report makes it clear that Athens Services is the only company that is going to cut residential
rates, so I urge you to select Athens. Why should we pay more for trash service if we don’t have to? The City
should continue to negotiate with Athens to get the best deal possible for Santa Ana residents.

Subject:City of Santa Ana trash contract
Honorable Mayor Sarmiento and City Councilmembers,
When selecting a new company for trash pick-up in Santa Ana, 3 things are very important:
efficient and reliable customer service, environmental impact, and cost. From what I can tell, the
three companies being considered for the city's trash contract all score highly in customer service
and environmental impact, but Athens Services stands out in the area of cost. Athens wants to cut
people’s rates, while the other 2 companies want to raise them. Cost is essential in these times to
many people. That should make the selection of Athens Services an easy and obvious decision. I
encourage the City Council to accept the Athens proposal which will overall benefit the community
as a whole.
Thank you for your consideration,
Lynnette Verino

Subject: City Waste Services
Hi Jessie,
As the councilmember for my ward (3), I wanted to write to you regarding Santa Ana’s city trash services
as I’ve heard that the City may be negotiating its waste services contract.
My husband and I would like the city and its councilmembers to consider switching its waste services
vendor. There has to be a more affordable option (given the global pandemic for one). And if not that,
then consider the current vendors inconsistency - having missed pick-up dates at our house a few times
and much more often with other neighbors according to what is posted on nextdoor. Also and perhaps
most distressingly, they do not separate regular trash from green waste. In the year plus that we’ve lived
here, the current vendor dumps both the regular AND green bins into the exact same trash truck at the
exact same time each week. Meaning they are not separating the green waste! I hope city residents are
not paying extra for this service.
In any event, thank you for your time and consideration to this matter.
Kind regards,
Trace Weatherford & Jonathan Rosenberger
