On a daily basis while courts were still up I had handballs hit over into my backyard and guys trying to climb up on my wall to retrieve them. I had guys looking over into my yard at all hours of the day trying to locate their handballs. When I would approach them to nicely ask for them not to climb my wall an altercation always became of it. I also was very uncomfortable due to having 2 young daughters that were afraid to play in our backyard due to guys always looking over or throwing things over to try and get their handballs down. I should also mention the many times I had strangers ringing my doorbell asking for their handballs. The worst part of all was the drug and alcohol use at the handball courts. I saw this on a daily basis personally. The smell of marijuana creeping over into my yard. Parents were full of fear and not able to enjoy the park with their children due to this. A park is to be enjoyed by the children in the neighborhood but instead we had illegal usage of our park and nothing was ever done because of this. Now that handball courts are gone the problems are gone and now the sound of children are heard enjoying the swings and slides just the way it should be. Please keep the handball courts out and bring in things for our children to enjoy. The only ones that would use them were people that do not even live in the neighborhood which meant it brought outsiders. There would also be homeless or drug addicts that would sleep there which made it unsafe to the neighbors around the park. I live right behind them so we did have some people climb our walls to try to get their balls instead of going around to the front and asking for them, we would even yell at them and they would start to fight with us. The handball courts not being there gives children more security to play on the playground which using the area of where the courts were to build a bigger playground so the park can actually look more like a park for family with children. Thank you for your time. Given the decades of experience that our parks and rec. staff and police departments have in dealing with criminal activity at our many parks it seems your choice is quite clear. Eliminate the remaining ones in town and don't rebuild another set as a magnet for criminal activity in Logan! lust because a few people feel differently the overwhelming evidence is they attract the wrong element. Given what we are seeing as a rising crime rate in town let's not feed this monster. Sadly this sport has lots of bad connotations not to mention our own city's poor history with offering this to our young people. Take up PICKLE BALL........... The neighbors quality of life has improved, peacefulness, no drug paraphernalia found on kids play area as before, no more graffiti on handball court walls, more space for kids and parents to care for kids etc. This neighborhood does not want the handball courts rebuilt. People who live outside the neighborhood are requesting them here because they do not want them in their neigh- borhoods due to all the undesirables they attract. We are attaching a petition that neighbors have signed not wanting the handball courts rebuilt. Logan Neighborhood residents are going to be calling into the council tonight to express their unhappiness on the idea of the courts being rebuilt. For the first 9 years, my family have been living in an uncertain, unsafe feeling because of all the illegal activities behind my house due to the Logan hand ball court. Graffiti were an competition for all gangs. The city cleaned it up, a few days later, a new Graffiti will appear and the battle for the city to clean these up none stop. Almost every night, especially weekends, my wife, 2 daughters have to listen to all the cursing and fighting from all teens and adults not belong in the neighborhood that have came to play hand balls. At least 2 times a week, for the last 9 years, our life will be disturbed by these strangers knocking on our door to try to look for a hand ball that might felt in our back yard. During these 9 years, we have multiple incidents of trespassing, they would jump into our backyard claimed to be looking for their balls. If you check the city police records. There were 2 times they jumped into our backyard while my 2 daughters ( were 10 and 12 year old then) playing in the yard. We have called the police twice in our first year living here, we stop calling since I know there nothing the police can do to stop people from jumping into our backyard. Also there was a homeless crisis that was constantly between the ball park and our backyard. People smoke weed, doing drugs, fighting and I once witnessed the sound of moaning of a homeless couple making out behind our wall. Our back door always locked, and I am the only one to bring trash out at night or go to our detach garage to get things out, due to fear and and security for my wife and daughters might encounter unexpected trespassers. Thank you for your decision to removed the hand ball court out last year and plan to renovate it into a children’s family playground. Thanks God, my family finally can enjoy living in our own house with peace and feeling secure. My back door have been open out since so that we can enjoy the fresh air, listening to the birds singing each morning, and most importantly of all, my family feel relax and can BBQ in our own backyard without fear. Please DO NOT make decision to bring the hand ball court back again. We can’t live in peace with the hand ball court present at Logan Park. Please place yourselves living in our home. Would you welcome violences, illegal activities, noisy, disturbances and unsafe living conditions in your own home, your own backyard ? People who are requesting The City Counsel to rebuild the hand ball court don’t live here, they never have to experience the living hell condition like my family have experience the last 9 years. We just started to feel safe and enjoying our life in our own home a few months since the removal of the Logan hand ball court. Please DO NOT bring hell back into our backyard. Please DO NOT take away our peace and security in our own home. Please place yourself in our living conditions with the hand ball court presented in the past that my family have to worry and distress all the time. If you need to listen to my family and my neighbor who backyards facing the hand ball court, please contact us for a real living testimony. Thank you so much for your kindness, reconsideration of voting a NO to the Logan Hand Ball court. However, should the City Counsel decision to vote YES to bring the hand ball court back, please accept this email as a legal document to report an unsafe living conditions if the Logan Hand Ball court is allow to rebuild. Should any thing happen to my family safety or personal distress that we will have to suffer like in the past. My family will hold the City of Santa Ana 1 accountabilities for bringing unsafe living environments into our backyard again. May Gods blessed you and our City, and thank you so much for caring and your dedication to provide to the City, the best City to live in. We were glad to hear that a Park Plan is in development and can assist in addressing this problem. Unfortunately may of the neighbors where not able to call in for comments last meeting due to a mishap concerning call in numbers, but a few of them have now decided to send a written comment too. We would like to see the petition ,which list the persons, who want the handball courts. Jonathan seemed to want to tear apart the petition we provided when he did not review the other one and provide that information. Dolores's family is probable 80% of that petition, so that counts as one per Jonathan. Also we have had petitions signed in the past wanting to have the handball courts removed by many who grew up here and saw the devastating effect they were now having on the neighborhood. Yes, there is a history regarding removing the handball courts, but was mostly delayed due to the city did not have the money. We wish Jonathans passion on this issue would be more of a mediator with the neighborhood than an activist. It's very disheartening to have my family name attacked. What kind of councilman allows this and encourages it. Chepa Andrade was an outstanding women, activist etc. for this neighborhood which would not even be here now if she had not help fight for it with Sam Romero and others. Very disrespectful with the current graffiti now happening. Juan Villegas was compassionate about our neighborhood and a much better representative/councilman. We want what is best for the neighborhood!!! We want a safe, healthy and happy environment for ALL Logan Neighbors, this should not be some kind of power struggle.
